Sakai
Cost of living, housing, transport and neighborhoods in Sakai.
City Overview
Sakai, in southern Osaka Prefecture on Osaka Bay, is the second-largest city in the Osaka metro and a historic city of commerce and blades. Once a free-trade port in the medieval era and the birthplace of the tea ceremony (home of Sen no Rikyu), it is now famed for traditional cutlery (Sakai forged blades) and a bicycle industry. The Nintoku Imperial Tomb (Mozu Tumuli, World Heritage) is here. About 15–20 minutes to central Osaka, with lower costs and affordable housing — a livable commuter-and-industry city of Kansai.
