Japan launched a Digital Nomad visa (a "Designated Activities" status) on 31 March 2024, allowing eligible remote workers to stay up to six months within any twelve-month period. It requires a high annual income (around ¥10 million) and private health insurance covering treatment in Japan, and is open to nationals of designated countries/regions with which Japan has relevant agreements. It is not renewable; re-eligibility requires six months outside Japan.
