Insurance in Japan — health, travel, and digital-nomad cover, what is mandatory, and how to choose a plan.
Japan's social insurance has two main parts beyond health: public pension (National Pension or Employees' Pension, via the Japan Pension Service) and employment/work-injury insurance. Enrolment is mandatory for residents. For drivers, compulsory automobile liability insurance (jibaiseki) is required. Private insurers are supervised by the Financial Services Agency (FSA).
