Japanese employment is governed mainly by the Labor Standards Act and related laws, overseen by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) through Labour Standards Inspection Offices. Employers must give clear working conditions, observe working-hour and overtime rules (including the "36 Agreement"), provide leave, and follow restrictions on dismissal.
