China regulates AI through a set of targeted rules rather than a single act, led by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). These include provisions on algorithmic recommendation, deep synthesis, and the Interim Measures for Generative AI Services (in force since August 2023), plus AI-content labelling rules effective from 1 September 2025. Providers must register algorithms/services where required, manage content, and label AI-generated content.
