As an EU member, France is governed by the EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689), the bloc-wide, risk-based law that entered into force in August 2024 and applies in phases (prohibitions and AI literacy from February 2025, GPAI obligations from August 2025, most high-risk rules from August 2026/2027). The CNIL also provides guidance where AI involves personal data.
